Bye Aerospace, Inc. Continues Hybrid RPV Development

Denver, Colorado - Bye Aerospace, Inc. announced an update on the development of its uniquely configured hybrid remote piloted vehicle (H-RPV) concept, the Silent Sentinel.

George Bye, CEO of Bye Aerospace, said the company is focusing on aerodynamics and specific features of the hybrid platform and accompanying systems. Recent milestones include discussions with Bellevue, Wash.-based Analytical Methods, Inc. and the University of Washington Aeronautical Engineering Department to study possible future aerodynamic enhancements.

"We intend to introduce a remarkable new capability with this all-composite H-RPV," he said. "Every aspect of performance, flight profiles and flight management is being examined for efficiency."

Bye Aerospace is also studying a manned optional configuration for the Silent Sentinel, which could more easily facilitate early development work in national airspace. "Working initially with the Federal Aviation Administration with a manned system may allow us to advance the program without unnecessary delays," he said. "In addition, we may be able to accelerate timelines by utilizing an existing civil platform to test and mature aspects of our hybrid system."

Charlie Johnson, Bye Aerospace COO and former Cessna executive, leads the company's developmental team. "We are taking a meticulous approach to every detail of this program," he said. "By working together with members of our technical, industrial and manufacturing partners, we anticipate achieving a significant performance and endurance benefit over current RPV systems." Other companies expected to participate in the project include turbofan engine manufacturer Williams International, electric motor provider UQM Technologies, Inc., thin film solar photovoltaics (PV) manufacturer Ascent Solar, and Porous Power Technologies, which is focused on advancing lithium-ion battery capabilities.

The Silent Sentinel H-RPV is intended primarily for military use; however, its capabilities may also include a broad spectrum of civil applications.
