Retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Mason Whitney Joins Bye Aerospace Inc.'s Strategic Advisory Council

DENVER, Colorado - June 25, 2009 - Mason Whitney, retired Air Force Maj. Gen. and Director of the Governor's Office of Homeland Security for Colorado, has joined the Strategic Advisory Council for Bye Aerospace, Inc.

Whitney is currently Director of the Governor's Office of Homeland Security for Colorado and serves on Gov. Ritter's cabinet. He served as The Adjutant General of Colorado from 2000 to 2007, and retired from the Colorado National Guard in April 2007 with nearly 39 years of commissioned service in the U.S. Air Force and Colorado National Guard. Early in his military career, Whitney served as a forward air controller at Ban Me Thout Special Forces Camp, South Vietnam, where he flew 343 combat missions in the O-2A aircraft throughout Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. After a tour in Air Training Command as an instructor pilot, he served in Tactical Air Command as a flight commander and wing standardization/evaluation officer at England Air Force Base, La., in the A-7D Corsair II aircraft.

During his service in the Colorado Air National Guard, Whitney served as chief of standardization/evaluation, fighter squadron operations officer, fighter squadron commander, deputy commander for maintenance, wing vice commander and eventually commander of the 140th Tactical Fighter Wing at Buckley Air Force Base, Colo. He was then selected for the position of Air National Guard Assistant to the Commander of Air Combat Command at Langley AFB, Va., and was promoted to Major General. Over his military career he had over 6,000 military flight hours, 343 combat missions and 758 combat hours. Besides the O-2A and A-7, he has flown the T-37, T-39 and F-16 aircraft.
